

From 1776 until 1783, Westchester County was known as the "neutral ground," trapped between armies. Learn about the challenges of choosing sides, daily life in Westchester, local battles, and people.
Tour:
This program includes a tour of the museum, with emphasis on the history of the American Revolution, including information on the Stockbridge Munsee, Loyalists, and the Philipsburg Proclamation and its impact on Black Loyalists.
Activity - Crossing the Neutral Zone Board Game:
Can you cross the Neutral Zone? This special board game created by Philipse Manor Hall staff guides students across Revolutionary Era Westchester County as either Loyalists or Patriots. Along the way, they stop at real historic places, "meet" historical people, and deal with the consequences of their loyalties and the dangers and opportunities on the road. This game requires a 4th grade reading level.
Grades: 4-12
This program is suitable for 4th grade and up. The game requires good reading skills.
Number of Students: up to 50
This program can accommodate up to 50 students in two groups - one group will tour the museum in small groups and the other will do the activity, and then switch.
Time: minimum 2.5 hours
Museum tours last 60-75 minutes, depending on age group. The game requires a minimum of 60 minutes to complete. Field trip coordinators should plan a minimum of 2.5 hours (with introduction and organizing time), or 3 hours if the group eats lunch on site.
