New York Public Library Schomburg Center

The 135th Street branch of the New York Public Library has promoted and preserved black American history and culture since the 1920s. Eventually renamed the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in honor of the donator of its first collection of African American literature, this Harlem landmark is now one of NYPL’s renowned research centers. The library’s collection of over 10 million objects includes some of the rarest manuscripts, art, and artifacts of the African Diaspora and offers.
