The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow

The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow was built in 1685 on the ancestral land of the Munsee people. Frederick Philipse I and Catharine Van Cortlandt are buried in its crypt. The church’s bell is inscribed with the initials of Frederick Philipse I and the Latin words of Romans 8:31. “Si Deus Pro Nobis, Quis Contras Nos?” meaning “If God be for us, who be against us?”
