
Join us for a panel presentation on the life and times of Free Black Patriot and Fort Montgomery Veteran Benjamin Lattimore! Led by Lattimore descendants Terry Jackson, Stacey Rose, and Philipse Manor Hall Education & Programs Manager Sarah Johnson, this talk promises to be an exciting revelation of Lattimore’s life, Revolutionary War service and post-War abolitionist activities. Discover Lattimore’s dramatic account of the Fort Montgomery battle, his imprisonment by the British and return to the Continental Army. Learn about his founding of the first Black school in Albany and other post-war service to the Black community, how his freedom was challenged in court, and the legacy he left behind.
Terry Jackson is a descendant of Benjamin Lattimore currently working as Controller at I.T. company; Data Industries LTD. He also is a Family Historian and a member of the Lake Wales FL. branch of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Stacey Rose is a descendant of Benjamin Lattimore who has been researching the life of Benjamin Lattimore, Jr. and his role in the early abolition movement in New York.
Sarah Wassberg Johnson is the education and programs manager at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site. She has an MA in public history from the University at Albany and has been working in the history museum field since 2007.
