Historical Games: Learn to Play Backgammon

Saturday, March 7, 2026

1:00 PM | in-person at Philipse Manor Hall | Free!

Backgammon is a two-player board game which uses special boards, dice, and counters. A style of "tables" game, backgammon dates back to the 17th century in England. Players roll the dice to move pieces around the board. The goal is to "bear off" or remove all of your pieces from the board before your opponent does!

Instruction begins at 1:00 PM. Bring a partner, or make a new friend while you learn together.

Other historical games will also be available for self-guided play.

This program is open to all ages and is free for everyone! Pre-registration is recommended. Call 914-965-4027 or email philipsemanorhall@parks.ny.gov to register. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site First Saturdays Historical Games Series is part of the New York State "Unplug and Play" and "Get Offline, Get Outside" initiatives to help children and teens connect offline.
