Historical Games: Learn to Play Liar's Dice

Saturday, January 3, 2026

1:00 PM | in-person at Philipse Manor Hall | Free!

Dating back to 15th century Peru, Liar's Dice is fast-paced game for two or more players. Brought to Europe by the Spanish, it became popular throughout Europe by the end of the 17th century. Using five dice and cups, Liar's Dice can go as long as you keep bluffing! Can you fool your opponents into believing your bid?

We'll also learn variations and other simple dice-based games from the past. Instruction begins at 1:00 PM. Bring a partner or make a new friend while you learn together.

Other historical games will also be available for self-guided play.

This program is open to all ages and is free for everyone! Pre-registration is recommended. Call 914-965-4027 or email philipsemanorhall@parks.ny.gov to register. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site Historical Games Series is part of the New York State "Unplug and Play" and "Get Offline, Get Outside" initiatives to help children and teens connect offline.
